About me

Hi, my name's Marie. In therapy, I strive to create an environment where every client feels heard & understood. I want to walk alongside you and be a support for whatever you need. These areas can include: developing new coping tools, exploring difficult issues, creating healthier relationships, processing trauma through EMDR, conquering anxious and/or depressive thoughts, or grieving life’s losses. Our time together can also simply be a space to discover more about your authentic self.

I'm a licensed professional counselor trained in Eye Movement Desensitization Reprocessing. I also incorporate mindfulness and relaxation exercises to promote emotional regulation and build resilience.

I am known for my empathetic, direct, and non-judgmental approach to therapy. I understand the complex nature of trauma and the impact it can have on a person’s life. I am committed to helping clients heal and regain a sense of control and well-being in their lives.

Therapies offered

I use a combination of different approaches to help you move forward.

CBT

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) is a highly effective treatment for a wide range of mental health conditions, including anxiety disorders, depression, post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), and obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD). It is also commonly used to address specific issues, such as relationship problems, insomnia, or chronic pain.

CBT is a goal-oriented and structured approach that aims to help individuals identify and change negative patterns of thinking and behavior. Through collaborative therapy sessions, clients learn how to challenge and modify their unhelpful thoughts and beliefs, and develop more adaptive and positive coping strategies.

Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing

Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) has been shown to be effective in treating a range of trauma-related disorders, including PTSD, anxiety disorders, and depression. It can also be used to address other issues, such as phobias, addictions, and chronic pain.

EMDR is a type of therapy that involves the use of bilateral stimulation, such as eye movements, hand tapping, or auditory tones, to help clients process traumatic memories and reprocess negative emotions and beliefs associated with the trauma.

MI

Motivational Interviewing

Motivational interviewing (MI) is a collaborative, client-centered counseling approach designed to enhance an individual’s motivation to change. It involves engaging in open conversations that explore ambivalence and foster a sense of autonomy. By using reflective listening and affirmations, practitioners help clients identify their own reasons for change, promoting self-efficacy and commitment.

Exposure and Response Prevention

Exposure and Response Prevention (ERP) is a therapeutic technique used to treat obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD) and other anxiety disorders. It involves gradually exposing individuals to feared situations, thoughts, or stimuli while preventing their typical compulsive responses. This process helps clients confront and reduce their anxiety over time, allowing them to learn that their fears are manageable and that they can tolerate discomfort without resorting to compulsive behaviors. ERP aims to break the cycle of anxiety and avoidance, leading to improved emotional resilience and functioning.
